Gloucestershire GolfSixes League 2018

The final league fixture was hosted by Brickhampton Golf Club on Sunday 16th September. In a very closely contested league, only two points separated first and third place, which is testament to the players efforts in representing their clubs.

A gusty but green Brickhampton Spa course welcomed the GolfSixes squads, with the addition of some fast greens to contend with over 6 holes.

The final fixture was another closely contested event with Ross-on-Wye taking first place and 4 league points thanks to a strong 127 point tally. Brickhampton GC followed closely with 120 points and Cotswold Hills notched 117 points to come third.

The final 2018 league table was incredibly close:

Gold medals: Ross-on-Wye (21 points)

Silver medals: Brickhampton (18 points)

Bronze medals: Cotswold Hills (17 points)

A huge well done to our GolfSixes squad members for their efforts and commitment to the league. You have all done yourselves and your clubs proud.

Also, congratulations to Noah Slatter (Brickhampton Court) celebrating his 6th Birthday !!!!

Big thanks also goes to our wonderfully committed parents, volunteers, Golf Foundation, Gloucestershire Golf and PGA coaches for making the league such a success. We look forward to seeing what GolfSixes looks like in 2019!

The penultimate round was played at Cotswold Hills on the 9th September with teams battling out for valuable points.  The leader board is all very tight leading into the final round which will be at Brickhampton Court on Sunday 16th September - 3pm.  Spectators welcome to witness some very fine golf played by these youngsters.

Round 4 of 6 played at Cotswold Hills last weekend saw the sun shine and all the players out on the main course.  Parents and spectators were witness to some great golf shots from the players who are just starting on their golfing journey.

Following their round they were treated to a small tea in the clubhouse.

The GolfSixes League is fantastic for youngsters and their parents. Even though it was pouring down at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex for the first series of GolfSixes matches in Gloucestershire at the weekend, the parents still enjoyed supporting the girls and boys as they played this innovative new inter-club team format over 6 holes in team colours. Proof of a good afternoon is in the smile of Freddie (pictured) from team Ross-on-Wye – here he is picking his golf ball out of the hole after sinking a magnificent 70 yard chip shot. The Golf Foundation’s Tom Sparks said: “Freddie was over the moon of course, and I was amazed by the spirit shown by the youngsters who all train so well with their club PGA Pros ready for the big match on Sunday. I’d really like to praise the dedication and enthusiasm of the parents, volunteers and club junior organisers who helped score and encourage the juniors. They were incredible all afternoon despite returning to the clubhouse completely soaked! GolfSixes is all about team spirit!”
Winners on the day in a close affair were Ross on Wye Golf Club, but there were plenty of positives too for the teams from Cotswold Hills and Brickhampton. Thanks also for support from Debbie England GolfGloucestershire Golf
The next fixture is at Ross-on-Wye soon and everyone is very excited!
