2017 was once again a bumper year for Girls Golf Rocks in Gloucestershire with over 50 girls taking part in activities around the County and receiving their 7 irons.

The project has been so well received that the Gloucestershire Girls Golf section of the Ladies Association have received more applications to their ongoing coaching and playing program.  Clubs have also seen an increase in girls junior membership and applications to their junior coaching programs.

To round off the 5 week beginner program the girls enjoyed a jamboree at The Kendleshire GC with fun games and playing the 6 hole academy course before each receiving a goodie bag and the famous Girls Golf Rocks Cup Cakes

Girls Golf has really taken off in Gloucestershire over the last few months.

It all started in January with the training of our County Players who would be our Ambassadors to the game and help coach the girls in the program.  Next came the taster sessions with over 70 girls taking part at 4 venues around the County.  The Kendleshire, Thornbury, Cotswold Hills and Gloucester Golf Clubs were all identified by the Golf Foundation as Golf Roots Centres.

Following tasters 53 girls signed up to further coaching and were presented with a 7 iron to help them with their coaching sessions.  After 4 weeks of coaching they set to the course.

Thornbury Golf Centre Par 3 course would be the venue where all the girls and ambassadors would come together and play a texas scramble over 9 holes.  25 girls ventured onto the course on what must have been the hottest day of the year (yes there was one!).  With goodie bags over their shoulders and clubs in hand the coaching was put into practice.

It was a great success with everyone receiving prizes and cup cakes with Girls Golf Rocks toppers.

What happened next was truly amazing - 28 girls have continued with further coaching sessions and these have all received a putter and to date 19 have joined in Academy membership.

All in all a great success and thanks go to coaches, venues, ambassadors, Active Gloucestershire and Wesport for the Sportivate Funding, Golf Foundation for their contributions with clubs and funding and lastly all the parents for the support and encouragement during the coaching sessions.

Who know maybe one of these girls will be Gloucestershires star in the future.  #thisgirlgolfs
